Welcome to the website of Mediterranean Voices: Oral History and Cultural Practice in Mediterranean Cities. The Mediterranean Voices project commenced in June 2002 and represents a three-year ethnographic investigation into the cosmopolitan oral and social histories of 13 historic cites across the Mediterranean region, and in particular, certain urban quarters within them. It is a major research project and partnership initiative between London Metropolitan University and 13 research institutions in the Mediterranean basin, and is part-funded by the European Union's Euromed Heritage II Programme.
The website and oral history database represents the culmination of three year's work, collecting, recording and selecting a vast range of material for dissemination via the interactive database. It is therefore a work-in-progress, and is part of a process which will also involve archiving an enormous amount of recorded material, to be made accessible at some point in the near future. If, however, you would like more information about this, or would like further information concerning a specific resource(s) in the database, please get in touch with us using the email address provided in the Contact Us section (on the menu bar above).
